Wisdom Notes - Enriching Your Heart and Mind
The 12 Factors of Business Success by Hogan, Lakhani and Marti
Extract from 12 Factors Wisdom Note
Brief Background
When I first read The 12 Factors of Business Success I was still running my Group Coaching practice. I was instantly struck by how it could significantly help Executives in all aspects of their lives – please do not let the book title dissuade you. I was so enamoured with the lessons in 12 Factors that I started recommending it in place of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – the 12 Factors can be applied in all aspects of our lives to make a profound difference.
The authors are all High Achievers in there respective fields and the lessons covered in 12 Factors are deep rooted in first hand experiences, ancient wisdom, and positive psychology (which incidentally also has its foundation in Aristotelian and Stoic teachings). 12 Factors aims to wake us out of a slumber of mediocrity and show us that if we sincerely want something, the potential to bring it into reality already exists within us, as Thomas Edison stated “If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.” So how do we “astound ourselves?” The authors remind us that it’s our ‘daily habits’ that need to change to get different results;
“If you are not happy with what you have now, or who you are in life, then the only one who can make a difference to your situation or life is you.”
As we reflect on that let’s also think about this statement by Jim Rohn; “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.” Our 12 Factors authors very wisely advise us;
“It is not your personality or your character that need renovation. It is your daily habits, actions, focus, projects, judgment, and decisions. To get different results, you have to change things.”
